greentides

Lake Winnipeg, one of North America's largest freshwater lakes, suffers from severe nutrient overloading. This overabundance of nutrients promotes fierce growth of algae (seen as green slop in photo). A cycle spins beyond control resulting in depletion of the lake's natural oxygen levels and ultimate death of the lake's ability to sustain diverse marine life. Some day, Manitobans will actually take action to reverse the slow death of this great freshwater inland ocean.
